The HotSpot™ 402 pulsed alexandrite laser is designed for precision spot welding. For most materials the HotSpot™ offers substantially greater material interaction than longer wavelength Nd:YAG lasers. Since it is more efficient, it also operates at higher repetition rate than ruby lasers.
The graphs shown here illustrate the dependence of material interaction on wavelength for a few common metals. The vertical lines in the plots show the relative interaction strengths at both the alexandrite (A) and Nd:YAG(Y) laser wavelengths. For these and many other materials, alexandrite lasers provide a significant advantage.
